  125. egroups page.  It updated all my egroups list entries painlessly.

  128. change anything you like.

  297. I myself have bought productivity type software in the past and, when
  298. a later version comes out I have nearly always upgraded.  Now, when I
  299. look at buying some new software I find myself asking the question
  300. will I end up with a product that won't be developed?  I want to

  302. progress but, these days who knows?  It's happened many times before,
  303. I've bought new software and it's life is over before it's

  321. The attitude may have something to do with the fact that, when the
  322. Amiga was first introduced it was a cheap home computer.  There was
  323. loads of PD, Shareware available, programs given away on the front of
  324. magazines ect, ect, after a while you get used to something being
  325. cheap or even cheaper (free).  The reason why the Amiga was so
  326. successful in the early years was, in my opinion, down to the fact
  327. that it was a cheap home computer and, therefore, attracted a buying
  328. public that did'nt have hundreds and hundreds of pounds to spend on
  329. hardware, software.  The Amiga market changed in terms of
  330. hardware/software, the Amiga buying public, (not all of them) did'nt.
  331.  
  332. So, on the whole, I have to agree with you, but I also think it may
  333. have something to do with the way the Amiga buying public was brought
  334. up.

  365. Well, you're hardly comparing like with like :) The benchmarks I've seen
  366. generally rank a G4 at being slightly faster than a PIII 50MHz faster at
  367. integer, and around the same FPU speed as a PIII 150MHz faster (although
  368. the Athlon does somewhat better here). A PIII 900 ought to be able to
  369. outperform a G4 of up to about 750MHz.
  370.  
  371. Of course, it doesn't make a great deal of difference - the vast majority
  372. of stuff people run is never going to take advantage of that sort of
  373. speed.

  542. your ram recoverable, which is usefull at times.

  591. with coming to terms themselves with the fact that they're gay - when
  592. they see people making casual jokes about it like that, and using
  593. the word 'gay' in a derogatory sense as in the original mail, all it
  594. does is make them more uncomfortable with themselves.

  596. A smiley doesn't make an offensive comment go away, but its often used
  597. as a convenient shield for truly hurtful words - and in both your case
  598. and the original poster's case, all those offhand remarks can do more
  599. harm than good.

  602. offensive to people when you're speaking in a public forum like this,
  603. and rephrase it accordingly. And remember, you don't know *quite* how

  1164. walls. Doom assigns each one a reference number for building the actual
  1165. TEXTURES. What seems to be happening is that Doom is being given a number by

  1766. Yep, it definitely works - I've been using it for a while now.  Note
  1767. that you can post from any addresses added as aliases, but when your
  1768. messages show up on afb, they'll always be "From:" the main address
  1769. (where messages are delivered to), no matter which alias you post from.
  1770. It's kinda weird... that's why all my messages here don't have my usual
  1771. address on them (my iName address has a quota, so I don't want afb
  1772. mails going there :)

  1774. It's probably best to just change your address on eGroups, via the
  1775. user info tab - only use aliases if you really need them.

  2504. It is. StatRAM may be ancient now, but it's the best of the RADs I've seen.
  2505. I use it all the time - the only problem is that if you rely on it heavily,
  2506. like I do and you have a serious crash - one you can't simply reboot from
  2507. but actually have to turn your machine off and leave it for a bit, you'll
  2508. obviously lose all you have in it. Mine's 20M so it could be quite a lot...

  2701. and have if not physically added go fast stripes then at least

  2705. 600 accelerators in stock!  And they appear to be a new type, called
  2706. the Viper 630. Now these ones aren't like the Viper 630s from 1997-8
  2707. (AF98 had a revierw of 'em if IIRC :), in that they are a 33MHz RC68030
  2708. (you know with MMU etc.), space for a PLCC 33MHz FPU (not sure if it's
  2709. PLCC since I left the house before it arrived, lucky someone will be
  2710. there to take it! :) and up to 32Meg of RAM.

  2712. I was under the impression this was an Apollo 630 until I ordered it
  2713. yesterday (I was contemplating whether I should get the FPU or not
  2714. because of my limited money and though: oh what the hell... :)), I was
  2715. informed it is the Viper 630.  Perhaps a rehash of the Apollo 630.

  2717. Anyway, you may all be interested in the prices if you want to soup up
  2718. your A600 and here they are:

  3040. Last night I was mucking about with my Amiga.
  3041.  
  3042. To cut a long story short, now it refuses to boot up. (unless it's from
  3043. floppy)
  3044. ( I can't get it to boot without startup sequence) I keep getting the
  3045. message ramlib failed to execute (or sometjing like that) and then the
  3046. option to suspend ot reboot.
  3047.  
  3048. Any ideas as to how one goes from here.
  3049.  
  3050. Last night I set up an OS30 partition on my HD (DH5) but my main one is
  3051. my OS35  partition DH0.  Niether will boot just the blessed ramlib
  3052. error.
  3053.  
  3054. Any help greatly welcome.

  3083. Seriously though, my Uncle used to have an A1000 (sold it many many
  3084. years ago) and I used to do some work on it, like a bit of Word
  3085. Processing and DPaint (yup the original! :), it ran Workbench 1.1PAL;
  3086. and seriously you could not get any work done because Workbench was so
  3087. unstable, the guru was a familar site! :)
  3088.  
  3089. So it was nice to get an A500 with Workbench 1.2 which was a lot
  3090. stabler.  Though the 1.1 target drag thingy was fun... :)  (you know
  3091. when you dragged an icon instead of a replication of the icon the
  3092. pointer changed to a target symbol... :)

  3094. If you thought Windows was bad (which it is! :) Workbench 1.0 and 1.1
  3095. were... 
  3096. ... something else.... :)

  3244. any number with Hz or whatever after it is a frequency related matter.

  3246. Interlace is actually two displays; odd and even, which I guess you
  3247. already know.  First odd lines are drawn then even and then odd then
  3248. even.  This is an alternation between an odd field and an even field. 
  3249. A standard PAL or NTSC Interlace screen has a refresh of 25Hz which
  3250. means that the screen is updated 25 times a second, this is how
  3251. frequently it does so, 25 times a second.  An 80Hz refresh rate means
  3252. that the screen is refreshed 80 times a second; as you know.  
  3253.  
  3254. The Hz bit tells us how frequently 'a thing' does 'something', e.g.: a
  3255. cpu does an instruction, a monitor refreshes etc.
  3256.  
  3257. If Hz wasn't there then it could indeed mean the monitor has an 80
  3258. refresh rate, 80 what?  Elephants, Kangaroos? :)  You can indeed have
  3259. an interlaced screen at 80Hz I'm not saying you can't, Interlace is a
  3260. frequency related matter because the refresh rates which affect
  3261. flickering are measured in Hz a measurement of frequency.

  3370. This actually sounds quite bad because ramlib is ROM based; now when
  3371. you say mucking about with your Amiga, do you mean inside of it or
  3372. playing about with software.
  3373.  
  3374. All I can say at this time is: are the ROMs seater properly, does the
  3375. machine have sufficient ventilalation?
  3376.  
  3377. Also, you were fooling :) about with your hard disk partitions; there's
  3378. a possibility you have done something to the RDB of the Hard Disk and
  3379. you may need to try and recover it with something like Angela's
  3380. Schmidt's (i think that's the name :) RDB Salv.  I mean, can you
  3381. actually access the hard disks at all?  If you can, perhaps it is
  3382. something to do with the RDB.

  3677. I'll try and make this brief, using OS3.5 I Shortend my empty DH4
  3678. partition and created a DH5. (I re-booted and booted OS30 HD install
  3679. disk, and installed OS30 to DH5)
  3680. (note DH0 Boot priority 1. DH5, -1)

  3682. The idea of having the OS30 is, that I can run all my old Amiga games
  3683. favourites, Pinball Fantasies, Fury of The Furries, Chaos Engine (all
  3684. broken with an 040) OS30 requires minumum mem to boot, so I can run

  3686. (BTW I already installed Pinball and Fury of the Furries on to DH5)

  3688. Now neither boot partiotion will boot. What's worse is that DH0 to DH2
  3689. use PFS2. DH3 is a Mac Partition. DH4 & DH5 use FFS (OS35) and when I
  3690. boot from floppy, only DH3 to DH5 are viewable.

  3928. matter) by adding CELLSPACING="0" into the TABLE tag. Of course, it
  3929. only works fully if you turn borders off (which is the default setting
  3930. anyway).
